Accessibility Statement

Last reviewed 22 October 2026

We want everyone to be able to use Matrix Jewellery. This statement covers matrixjewellery.com (the showcase website) and studio.matrixjewellery.com (the invitation-only Private Design Studio, including asking for access). It says what we have done, what we have checked, and what we know is not yet good enough.

How accessible is this website?

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. We have not yet confirmed that we meet them. Neither the website nor the Studio has been audited by an independent accessibility specialist, and we do not claim certification or approval from any outside body. What follows is our own self-assessment: the website was assessed on 13 October 2026 and the Studio on 20 October 2026 with automated tools.

What we have done

  • Pages use headings in order (one main heading per page), labelled navigation, a main area and a footer, so screen-reader and keyboard users can move around.
  • A "Skip to content" link is the first thing you reach by keyboard. Every link and button can be used with the keyboard, and shows a visible focus mark.
  • The mobile menu opens and closes with the keyboard and with the Escape key.
  • Photographs have text descriptions. Purely decorative pictures are hidden from screen readers.
  • The pages reflow to a narrow phone screen without sideways scrolling, and we checked them at 200% text size.
  • If your device is set to "reduce motion", the scrolling animations are switched off, the short looping films do not play (a still picture is shown instead), and all content is shown at once.
  • Each looping film has a visible Pause button, so you can stop any movement.
  • The website sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, uses no tracking, and asks for no account or password. There is no timed step on the website.
  • You can enquire by email or by Instagram message, so you are not forced to use one method. Email is our main route for accessibility feedback and for alternative-format requests.

The Private Design Studio

  • Cookies and browser storage are different things. The Studio sets no cookies and uses no tracking, but while you are signed in it keeps your sign-in and your unsent design in your browser's session storage, which is removed when you close the tab. After you send a design it also keeps a short-lived note (about one hour) so the confirmation page can show. See our Studio privacy notice.
  • Keyboard. All 16 teeth can be chosen and changed using the keyboard alone. Each tooth button has a spoken name giving its position and, once chosen, its metal, finish and style. Style and finish are shown by letters as well as colour.
  • Announcements and structure. Changes such as the number of teeth chosen, the running design subtotal and the "minimum two teeth" message are announced politely to screen readers. Each page has one main heading, a main area, a page language and a skip link.
  • Checks. On 20 October 2026 we ran an automated checker (axe-core) on 14 Studio screens and it found no violations on the colours it could measure, and we checked narrow-screen layout at 320 pixels on the sign-in page, the request-access form and the first design step. On 22 October 2026 we ran the same checker, on a desktop and a phone-sized screen, on the design-subtotal box (with and without a figure), the metal and finish step, the review step, the enquiry form and the confirmation page, and it found no violations. The checker flagged text colour contrast over gradients for manual review on every screen, and we have not reviewed that by hand.
  • Known limits. We have not tested the Studio with screen readers or voice control. The design preview is a picture; the same information is in the tooth buttons and the written summary. A sign-in code works for 15 minutes and the Studio signs you out after 30 minutes of inactivity to protect your account; you can ask for a new code at any time. Text over photographs has not been contrast-measured.
  • If you cannot use the visual designer, email matrixenquires@gmail.com or message @matrixjewelleryuk and tell us in your own words which teeth you want and the metal and finish for each. We will reply and help you shape a design in writing. Asking will never count against you.
  • The console the business owner uses is an internal tool and is not covered by this statement.

What we checked on the website

We ran automated checks in Google Chrome on all pages, on a desktop screen and on phone-sized and tablet-sized screens. They covered headings, landmarks, image descriptions, link names, button names, keyboard order and focus marks, the skip link, the mobile menu, the pause button, reduced-motion behaviour, 200% text size, the size of tap targets, and a sample of text-colour contrast on plain backgrounds. We also looked through the pages by eye. The results are in our own test records.

Known limitations

  • We have not tested with screen readers such as NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver or TalkBack, nor with voice-control software. Some problems may only show up there.
  • Text on photographs. Some headings and captions sit on top of photographs. We did not measure their contrast, and some may be harder to read in places.
  • Small tap targets. The main buttons and links meet the minimum size, but some smaller links and controls are still under the 44-pixel size we would prefer on phones.
  • Photograph descriptions are brief. They say what is shown, but not every detail of the jewellery. If you need more detail about a piece, ask us.
  • Looping films have no sound and no captions. They show jewellery being worn or designed, and nothing in them is needed to understand the page.
  • Other websites. We link to Instagram and to a news article. We do not control how accessible those sites are.
  • Page speed. On a very slow mobile connection the large photographs can take several seconds to appear. The text is available first.

What we plan to do

  • Test the website with at least one screen reader and with voice control, and fix what we find.
  • Measure the contrast of text over photographs and darken the backgrounds where needed.
  • Make the smaller links and controls larger on phones.
  • Review this statement at least once a year, and again whenever the website changes in a way that could affect access.
